WorldCom asked a federal bankruptcy judge to approve $25
million in retention bonuses for 325 executives and employees as the
long-distance phone company reorganizes. The bonuses would equal 35 to 65
percent of employees' annual salaries, WorldCom said in a filing in U.S.
Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan. Companies in Chapter 11 typically offer such "pay
to stay" bonuses to key employees.
